Puente for Congress

My name is Joseph L. Puente and I'm running for United States Congress in Utah's Third District as an independent candidate.

I'm a political centrist on the Nolan chart. I am neither a statist nor fully libertarian in my political philosophy. The terms "conservative" and "liberal" have lost nearly all meaning to me in modern political discourse since most people who apply those labels to themselves can't reconcile their rhetoric with the very meanings of those words. I have given up on political parties as I fear that George Washington's warnings about the dangers of political factions have become a reality.

"The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism... and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty." -George Washington, 1796

I am seeking volunteers to help with the campaign. To start out, I'm inviting everyone visiting this web site to join my Facebook group as a sign of moral support and from there I'll be organizing a more formal campaign committee.

For starters, this is what I need help to accomplish:

Since I am not affiliating myself with any of the "ballot-approved" political parties, I have to submit a petition to the state with 300 or more signatures of registered voters--verified by county clerk(s)--in District 3*.

I need volunteers in the
following communities to help
collect and verify signatures:
  • Salt Lake County
  • Utah County
  • Sanpete County
  • Sevier County
  • Juab County
  • Millard County
  • Beaver County

I need to submit the petition to the Lt. Governor's Office no later than March 17.

*You can also print and sign your own petition, have it verified by your county clerk and then mail it to me for inclusion with the rest of the petitions to get me on the ballot.
You can also contribute directly with your PayPal account by sending funds to joepuente@live.com.

This campaign is about as grassroots as it gets. Anyone who is interested in making a difference for Utah are welcome and encouraged to contact me.

Let's make it happen!
